Introduction to K-9 Tracking I
This course introduces dog teams to the wonderful scent sport of tracking. Teams (one K-9/ one handler) will learn the fundamentals of AKC tracking and how to teach your dog how to imprint on odor and track an odor to a finish location (track end). Teams will learn to follow a track in a straight line and add corners in both directions. Handlers will learn the fundamentals of tracking, including scent makeup, basic effects of weather and ground cover (moisture, wind, and topography); scent imprinting, reading your dog, how to cast your dog to provide them with a strong track start, and beginning line handling.
prerequisites: dogs must be behaviorally healthy w/ no aggression issues and must be at least 6 months of age at the start of class. no upper age limit.
